I am currently a Nurse Practitioner and serve our veterans, as well as a virtual health and fitness coach. I have been an NP for about four years now. Eight months ago I found myself, in what looking back now, was a slight state of depression. I had been sick and out of work for a full month. I was physically and mentally drained.
I felt unmotivated to get back to work and was overall unhappy with where things were at in my life. However, I had no idea why. I seemingly had a near “perfect” life. I was recently engaged, moved into a beautiful new home, had a good job that on paper seemed to be my dream job, good family, and great friends. I began to feel guilty about feeling unfulfilled and unhappy, because, man, I had it pretty good.
The opportunity of virtual health and fitness coaching entered my life at the perfect time. I said yes to the opportunity, and it was the best decision. I started sharing my journey of getting back into my best physical and mental shape of my life. The moment I had a complete stranger reach out to me and say, “you inspire me every day, thank you for doing what you do” I knew I had found the piece that was missing.
As a healthcare provider, I have always had a passion for health and wellness and just needed a different way to incorporate it into my life. I am motivated by the women I choose to surround myself with. When I see clients getting results and sharing their success stories, both physically and mentally, it drives me to work harder and reach more women who are needing the opportunity at a time in life as I did.
The biggest lesson I have learned so far through this journey? Stop being afraid of what other people are going to think of you. It is then that you will find what truly fulfills you. I was so nervous to become a health and fitness coach and share my journey via social media. I had to learn to embrace the fact that not everyone was going to agree with what I was doing. However, if I could impact one person in a positive way, it was worth it.
